FAQ's

What brands of make-up do you use?

My kit is full of premium-branded make-up and skin care.  Although I hold professional accounts with many beauty brands, I am not affiliated with any company; all of the cosmetics I use are ones that I have researched, tried and tested and I know are going to last all day, look amazing and photograph beautifully.  Nars, Mac, Armani, Illamasqua, Inglot, Charles Fox, stilla and Urban Decay are just some of the brands I stock in my kit.

I am beginning to build up a vegan kit and am experimenting with vegan skin care by various beauty brands.  Some of my vegan cosmetics include Elf, B cosmetics, Milani and The ordinary.  Cruelty free brands include Charlotte Tilbury, Stilla, Urban Decay and Illamasqua.

What hair products do you use?

I work using mainly a corriolis wand and or ghd's to style hair.  I protect the hair using various heat protection, moose or spray dependant on your hair type.  I use mainly Loreal, Bumble and Bumble and Bed head brands.  Once again all of my products have been tried and tested for longevity and to suit different hair types and styles.

Who needs to have a make-up trial?

As a bride it is really important to have a wedding make-up and hair trial before the big day.  This is the ideal time for us to try and test ideas you may have well in advance of your wedding day.  You are welcome to bring along any magazine pictures you like, Pinterest boards, pictures of your dress/bridsmaids dresses, flowers and jewellery, together with any swatches and samples you may have too.  This will give me an idea of your theme and I can then put together an idea to compliment everything, giving you a clean and continuous look for the whole day.

Makeup and hair trials usually take around 2-3 hours, therefore I trial only for the bride.  I am happy to discuss ideas and styles for any extra wedding party members who wish to have makeup and hair done too.  Our main goal is to enhance your beauty and make you look and feel incredible.  Creating your perfect look at a wedding trial means that on your wedding day you can just sit back and enjoy the experience of being pampered, knowing that your make-up and hair will be exactly what you want it to be.

I can also apply false eyelashes to complete your makeup look, making a real feature of the eye.  I personally love individual lashes as they add just enough effect to create really outstanding eyes.

You are more than welcome to have friends or family members present at your wedding trial.

Once the trial is complete and you are happy with the makeup and hair look I require a £60 deposit to secure your wedding date in my diary.

When should I have my trial?

I am happy to do trials as early as 6 months prior to your wedding date.  I will take photos for reference and notes of products I have used.  I can also specify lip colours used incase you wish to purchase your own for topping up later on your wedding day.

Sometimes a trial 4-6weeks before may suit some ladies more, by which point you will probably have the other details of your wedding arranged.  Knowing exactly what your colour scheme is and your dress style, may help with a clearer idea of what you'd like your make-up and or hair to look like.

I schedule trials around my fashion and advert work so these can very occasionally be subject to change with notice.  I will always offer a range of dates to hopefully suit, or you are welcome to email me with your available dates and times to best suit.

How do I reserve my wedding date?

To reserve a date I ask for a deposit of £60 Deposits are non-refundable and are deducted from your overall package cost.  I am happy for you to pay this once you have had a trial.

How can I prepare?

You will not need any of your own products, unless of course you are wanting to use something specific, please feel free to call me in advance if you wish to discuss any particular products.  In preparation for your trial and wedding morning, your skin just needs to be clean and makeup free.  I will prep your skin with skincare to best suit your skin type, ahead of the makeup application.

Hair is best washed, clean and dry before my arrival for your wedding trial unless previously discussed.  Please speak to me beforehand if you feel your hair requires a different prep.

How long will it take to do our make-up and hair on the wedding day?

This varies somewhat depending on what each person is having done but I usually ask a bride to leave me around an hour and a half for makeup and hair and 35-45 mins per extra person makeup or hair.  Once you have confirmed the number of people wanting their make-up and hair done we can discuss timings.

I will happily send you a rough schedule at or after your trial of timings for makeup and hair, this way you can arrange timings with any of your wedding party that may also want makeup or hair done.

How long will my make-up last on my wedding day?

I use professional quality make-up, all applied in thin layers, ensuring your make-up will last right through to the evening!  It is worth having a powder or blotting paper to use throughout the day to keep any shine at bay and you may need to top-up your own lipstick.  I usually discuss all of this in depth with my customers at their trials and recommend products.  The make-up I use is designed and applied to last as long as possible.

Why does bridal make-up cost more than bridesmaid make-up?

Firstly we'll be in touch a fair bit via e-mail and or phonecall prior to your wedding date so bridal cost also covers the time spent doing this as well as my kit and insurance costs.  I also spend at least 2 hours with my brides at their trials and an hour on their wedding day so in total the bride has around 3 hours of consulation and make-up time whereas anyone elses' make-up is around 45 mins.  I have also lost count of the number of brides I've helped into wedding dresses, veils I've put in(when I am booked just for makeup), button holes I've pinned etc etc.  Your wedding day is all about you and you'll receive a premium service and be made to feel extra special!

What payment methods do you accept?

I accept Cash or Bank Transfer.  Once you've decided to book, I will send you an invoice which details all of my payment methods and a breakdown of costs.  Trials need to be pre paid online or cash on the day.  For your main wedding day your invoice must be paid 7 days prior to your wedding date.

Are there any additional travel costs or expenses?

I charge 0.45p per mile travel.  Travel charges apply both to and from your venue, on the day of your trial and also on your wedding day.  If your home is not in the area I cover with travel included and you'd like to come to me on the day of your trial you are more than welcome to.

If parking charges apply at your chosen venue, please inform me of this prior to your booking.  These will also be added to your invoice.

For groups of 6 or more, or weddings with very early ceremony times an assistant may be required.  My assistant fee is £60.

I am very happy to travel further afield for weddings but do require overnight accommodation to be booked and paid for if the venue is over 90 mins away from my home.

For more details please see my price list or get in touch if you have any questions.

What areas do you cover?

I am booked for weddings across the UK and am more than happy to travel but I am predominantly based in the Midlands and the following are areas in which I work regularly: Leicestershire, Loughborough, Warwick, Northampton, Birmingham, Nottingham, Oakham and Rutland and surrounding areas.

Additional Costs

All prices above cover from 7am onwards on your wedding morning.  If you have a very early ceremony and we need to start your make-up before 7am there is a £25 charge per additional hour.

For larger groups or early ceremony times it may be necessary for me to book an assistant.  The assistant fee is £60.  Please get in touch via e-mail to info@jessicanurse.co.uk if you feel this may apply to you and you'd like more information.
